Driver of Totalled Renault Killed in Crash

Ozan Alparslan, a 19 year old from Cengelkoy, was killed Wednesday night in a head-on collision with an IETT bus headed to its Umraniye bus barn. Alparslan, who was the only person in the car, lost control of his Renault Broadway. He had been driving 20km/hr over the speed limit on slick, wet roads and, in an attempt to avoid a collision, changed lanes. However, the bus also changed lanes, and so ended up crushing the front of the car in the crash. Alparslan, who was drinking, in addition to not wearing a seat belt, was thrown through his windshield, hit the front of the bus, and died instantly. The driver of the bus, Cem Bayir, sustained only a broken arm.
